Local Canoe Man Runs for Bolton Lads & Girls

Rob Stafford, Director of Stafford & Co chartered accountants based on Gaskell Street, Bolton completed the Great Manchester run this Sunday in support of Bolton Lads & Girls Club. As well as raising some money for the club through sponsorship Rob wanted to raise publicity for the Bolton Atlantic Rowing Challenge which will be completed later in the year. The challenge will see four Bolton business men row 3000 miles across the Atlantic in a bid to raise funds for the club. Rob decided to not only run the race but to do it inside a 9 foot kayak!

The added weight and size of the kayak made the run that bit more difficult but Rob still managed to complete the run in an excellent 1 hour 9 minutes. The kayak definitely achieved its desired effect with many of the crowd urging him on with shout outs such as ‘go on canoe man’.

Stafford managed to raise a considerable amount for the charity with donations still coming in, but he is hoping that the kayak will have helped raised publicity for the boat challenge which is estimated to bring in approx. £200,000 for the charity.

Rob commented ‘I am really pleased to have taken part in the race and raise money for Bolton Lads & Girls club. I believe it is important for local Bolton businesses to give something back to our local charities which provide so much for the youth community. Raising money through sponsorship was not my main aim I just wanted to raise awareness of the Atlantic Boat challenge this is a major event for the charity, the more the community can support this event then hopefully the club will reach their target and be able to help even more local young people. I am suffering today with sore back and shoulders but it was definitely worth it’.

Stafford was supported all the way by Matt Tompkin, Solutions Consultant at Comms Consult also based in Bolton. Matt will be one of the four locals completing the boat challenge and ran alongside Rob for the whole of the race.

Stafford & Co accountants have supported the club for a number of years and have been patrons for the last 2. The company ethos is to work hard, play hard & give back to their local community which as Rob says they always enjoy too!
