What specialist skills do you offer Stafford & Co clients?

I see my role in the business being spread between three main areas, operations – ensuring our dedicated team deliver a fantastic service to our valued clients, finance – oversee our finances and ensure that we maintain good relationships with service providers and suppliers and finally strategy and business growth to ensure that Stafford & Co. continues to progress based on our core vision and values.

What professional achievement are you most proud of since working at Stafford & Co?

My ACA (now FCA as I’m getting old!) qualification will always be my proudest achievement.  I am a big believer in continual self-development and I read business books regularly.  I also completed a Dale Carnegie Leadership course early in my career and I regularly apply the principles of this course in my day to day interactions with the team and clients.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

The M60 ‘smart’ motorway being completed – Carillion haven’t helped matters there!

What advice would you give aspiring business owners?

Have a clear vision for what you want your business to look and feel like.

What specialist skills do you offer S&Co clients?

I’ve built up an extensive portfolio of client work and have a good knowledge of VAT, personal tax, corporate tax, and accounts preparation.  I will focus on client advisory work whilst assisting Rob with running the company’s day to day operations in relation to accountancy, audit, business growth and taxation.

What did you do before joining S&Co?

Having qualified AAT at 18 after leaving school at 16, I then qualified ACA at 21.  As such I have worked in practice for over 8 years as a qualified accountant.

Describe a typical day in your current role.

My time will be spent leading and directing our team whilst meeting clients to discuss their tax and accountancy affairs.

What is your ideal way to spend a Sunday?

Playing football for my local team, followed by watching Man Utd win at my local pub.

I have practiced for over 30 years.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?

Rory McIlroy, he’s a great golfer.

Property aside, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?

My first Mercedes.

What would your super power be?

To never miss a putt.

What is your most treasured possession?

A photograph of four generations of “Staffords”.

What is your background?

At 15 years old I began, what is now my career, as an accounts junior at a Horwich accountancy practice. Since then I have worked at a number of local accountancy firms before moving to Gibraltar. Over the seven years I spent in Gibraltar I was employed in various finance industry roles including online gaming, fund administration and insurance management. I relocated back to the UK in November 2013 where I took the opportunity to join the team at Stafford & Co.

What is your favourite word?

Dude.

If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?

Wooly Mammoth

 What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

Being less scared of flying so I could travel to more exotic places.

Where would you most like to be right now?

Iceland, preferably when the northern lights are visible!

What did you do before joining Stafford & Co?

I studied Accounting and Finance at Manchester Metropolitan University where I graduated with a first class honours degree.

Describe a typical day in your current role.

Accounts, Audit, Personal and Corporation Tax, VAT, Management Accounts, Bookkeeping.

What professional achievement are you most proud of since working at Stafford & Co?

Completing the certificate and professional levels of my ACA qualification. I now only have the final 3 advanced level exams left to complete in order to become a qualified chartered accountant.

What’s the thing you like best about working at Stafford & Co?

Working with our clients and gaining an insight into the varying industries they operate in and also working alongside the wonderful team at Stafford & Co.

To carry on having ambition and working towards your future goals.

Relaxing and also spending time outdoors on walks

Working on Accounts, management accounts, bookkeeping and VAT returns. As well as dealing with any client queries.

What professional achievement are you most proud of since working at S&Co?

Progressing to Level 4 AAT with the view to complete and work towards completing ACA.

What’s the thing you like best about working at S&Co?

Working with a fantastic team of people and being able to learn and develop new and existing skills.

Having specialised in payroll and auto-enrolment for the past 8 years, I offer clients an in-depth knowledge of payroll and the ability to assist with any queries they may have.

Describe a typical day in your current role.

My role varies but a typical day involves running payrolls, answering any payroll related queries & assisting with new client engagements.

What did you do before joining S&Co?

I worked as Payroll Lead at Black Diamond Accountancy.

What is your most treasured possession?

My engagement ring.

My role at Stafford & Co varies from day to day. I can be preparing accounts, producing personal tax returns, or auditing a company – anything that needs doing really!

What’s the thing you like best about working at S&Co?

Interacting with different people is the highlight of my job – I love getting to know clients and my colleagues aren’t too bad either!

Make a plan and put all your effort into following it through.
